Welcome to McMurdo Station Antarctica. I had the great privilege to work for the Raytheon Polar Services as support staff for the National Science Foundation. It was an incredible adventure of mind and spirit to say the least filled full of like minded souls that aspired to the same goals and ambitions. During the 24 hours of daylight in the heart of the Antarctic summer, scientist and support staff work hard, 54 hours, 6 days per week, or more to provide a quality base of operations for scientific studies such as global warming, Antarctic glazier melting and many, other worthy and notable endeavors. We flew in from Christchurch New Zealand on a C-17 cargo plane, approximately a six hour flight away from the civilization most of us take for granted. In order to support up to 1000 people during the summer, all equipment, food, supplies and gear has to be imported to site once a year by cargo container ship an incredible operation in it’s own right. This in one of my most rewarding opportunities that I highly recommend for anyone who’s looking for an incredible adventure of a life time! (four month contract as their ….

I was picked from a host of applications to work on Palmyra Atoll as their Construction Manager. Keep in mind this was a winter season post that spanned four months with three other like minded souls on Station. Dennis, the Station Manager, Will who has had seven tours in Antarctica as well, the Mechanic, and Karen, the lady that kept the camp together and who spoiled us with all her great cooking. It was an interesting experience,  a castaway kind of moment in my life and I’m confident the life of my other three co-workers. We were all dropped off on the Atoll in a G-1 turbo prop … and life in the main stream disappeared as we know it. No con trails, no human intervention other then what came in over the satellite dish.  We were castaways in every measure of the word!

I’ve been self employed most of my life so it was refreshing to work for such a world renowned company, the Nature Conservancy and for Raytheon in their more benign Polar operational Contract for the NSF.

I received high praise working for these two firms and proud of my accomplishments.   I received a 5 of 5 in my evaluation  for my work in Antarctica and high praise form Dennis for my work on Palmyra.  Mainers have a reputation for being wicked good employees. Most of us were raised with a solid work ethic and I’ve been blessed with an advanced creative and mechanical sense.  This is surely part of the reason for my success in this work arena!

Seeking Quality Work with a Quality Employer!

Why am I seeking work other then the self employed?  I have a limited number of years left prior to my consideration to retire. It would be nice that I end this work period fully employed doing what I do best and love to do … working.  With a reasonable salary package and benefits package I can end my successful work cycle in an upbeat and as they say, live happily ever after. I have allot to give the right firm. I enjoy learning new things and am considered a “quick” learner. I give my all at what ever task is set before me. It would also be nice to add some excitement and adventure into the mix as well as I experienced with my last two jobs enumerated above.

With all due respect to any company HR person reviewing this page, I am more then the Employee Number that you would assign me.
