returned an email sent
to Mr. Walker's Hot Mail
account. Prior to that
time his account was
working fine. Upon On

had the same
experience. (distributor
of Buck's book)
On May 29th 2008 Buck Walker was getting with
daughter and grand kids thru the month of June.
He had to be back to S.F. by the first of July.
In his last letter he wrote: Mike, I'm back in 1st
chance to get on O-EM. As I have limited time,
just wanted to touch base. Will try going to
Probably be able to check for e-mail messages
tomorrow. Regards. Buck.
That's the last letter received. Was Buck forced
to delete his email account? At this time his where
abouts and questions go unanswered.
It is the policy of most prison systems to release
aging inmates around 70 years of age. Normally
their sent back to the area they left prior to being
incarcerated. Buck chose to stay in S.F. According
to a report I read, Buck was not in the best of
health. By placing aging prisoners back in society,
the facility no longer has to pay for their health
care which increases with the age of the
population. Society again picks up that role.
Buck has been very vocal about his role in the
Murder Mystery that took place on Palmyra in
1974 and published his accounting. (see below)

on the Front Page and over 2500 hits over all.
Buck Walker's page received the second
highest hits of nearly 600. Now in the internet
world this may not seem like allot but with out
ranking in the "Google" searches this is a
rather good showing.

Human Nature vs Top Picks, Google Pictures
|
A couple of months ago, I posted a number of pictures on Panoramio's
pictures site that ties them to Google Earth and in this case, Palmyra Atoll.
Posted in this addition of the Gazette are the top six pictures for your review.
Curiously with all the beauty and the bird population ~ the first ranked picture
came at some surprise. .... and now to the top selections:

88 Hits: For what ever reason, this
photo has had the most "hits" on
Panoramio? Navel left overs from
the base operations from '38-'45.
The debris is made up of mostly old
metal items. After the owners
regained title to the property from
the Navy, a salvage company came
in and cleaned up the majority of
Naval Artifacts. Most that remains
are the remnants of the old
concrete bunkers which there are
many lasting structures. The wood
structures are all gone and only
remnants of the old machine shed
near the Cooper Camp is left. What
ever might of been bad in this junk
seems to be long gone as Palmyra
recaptures it's hold on the atoll. The
picture is more shocking then it is
detrimental to the Atoll ecosystem. I
added this picture only because I
was shocked when I first viewed
first hand all this "stuff". One of
Palmyra's #1 pristine beaches is
only mere feet to the left of this
picture adjacent to East Lagoon.

82 hits: Whippoorwill Beach, East
Lagoon. The top ranked picture is
situated just behind this magnificent
beach area. From deep water onto a
perfect marine, sandy beach setting.
80 Hits: East Lagoon pass viewing "school
of fish" The transfer point heading to the
Barrens. (Installed tide marker that day)
81 Hits: Removal of the organic material on the runway just after one of Palmyra's many rain storms. Is it soup yet? (more pictures)
|
87 Hits: Noah's Ark located out on the
right heading out the channel. An old
barge from WWll that ran aground on
the reef and now covered with plants.
75 hits: The Esperanza was a pirate ship that ran aground on the Atoll long long ago. Allegedly, Inca Gold was buried on Home Island. With all the activity on the atoll, if the gold was there, it's conceivable to think the Navy might of found it? Home island is still privately owned. Perhaps the owners kept this place on the Atoll just in case gold was found at some point in the future - who knows? The Esperanza ll was made up of old buoys that floated to Palmyra and ended up on the beaches. Attached is a three page message in a bottle - last seen floating NW out the Palmyra channel. So far no reports of sightings have been sent but one can always be hopeful. I was never bored while on the atoll ~ there was all ways some mischief to get into ...

Going GREEN!
As Americans make it threw an other winter with high fuel prices the word "green" has never
been more popular. During my stay on Palmyra last winter, life was extremely easy. Thanks to
The Nature Conservancy of Honolulu, all our needs were planned for in advance. We eat well,
we slept well, life was good. We rode bicycles around or walked to work down to the shop on
the North end of Cooper camp. Evenings were spent walking North beach or in creative
pursuits and our world took on a life much like a castaway in this tropical deserted atoll.
Mean while fuel prices were going threw the roof back in my home state of Maine! When I
returned, it was to a very different world. Fuel for my truck cost nearly $5 and people were
having to decide between buying food or paying for the fuel they needed to stay warm.
Are you doing all you can to Live and promote the Green way of life?
