Completion / improvements of the
Lanai ~ Palmyra by MEMurray
To all Interested:
The Lanai has been renovated and brought
up to a higher standard for safety and
personal enjoyment for those that will have
the opportunity to enjoy this new space.
Pictures are attached for your viewing
pleasure. It was my pleasure to work on this
project!
Approximately 1/2 of the deck surface planks
were removed due to decay. The surface was
rebuilt using a verity of sizes of pressure
treated planks. The frame underneath was
stabilized and braced. A new band board
was added on most of the sides structurally
and as an accent. 45 degree inlay planking
was added for eye appeal. Built in benches
were added that will seat 6-8 people with
side arm rests. Two 2x12 tables were
installed at front and rear side by the water's
edge. A forest Green deck paint and an
Ocean Blue accent paint should be ordered
to "finish" the detailing of the deck and
preserve the material for a longer period of
time.
A new 5x10' deck was added to fill in the
space to the edge of the water using the
concrete blocks as foundation. Recycled PT
planks were used for the frame and recycled
2 1/2" vinyl plank was used for the decking
surface. At first it was thought this surface
would be slick when wet but it seems to be
fine. If there are questions or concerns add a
rubber mat that will cover a 5x8' area. It is my
hope that we can use some of the salvaged
sand material from the runway to fill in along
the right hand side down to the waters-edge.
Currently the surface is very rough and
possible injury could occur while walking on
it. The Bow-Spree you see in the picture is a
salvaged piece of drift wood. A waterproof
light has been added at the end to provide
"ambiance" easily viewed from the "Love
Seat".
Lighting: Power was pulled from cabin three.
Two overhead "bug lamps" were installed on
the ceiling in the main area with switching.
Power was run to three outlets one on a 4x4
pole that will power a flood light for watching
manta rays swimming near by at night time
plus the lamp at the end of the pole which
allows a view of the native fish life. All are
powered threw a GFCI.
I believe the project went well considering
that Home Depot is over 1000 miles away
and the "pickings" here required a creative
eye in order for this much work to be
completed. We hope this "much improved"
Lanai services TNC's needs well and again
everyone enjoys this newly revamped space!
Sincerely
