DaDu, the
island dog. Two
of his buddies
died here. The
three of them
hunted sharks
for 11 months
when the Atoll
was vacated
prior to TNC
take over.
Palmyra Atoll is a
Nature Sanctuary.
Palmyra is situated nearly dead center of
the Pacific Ocean. Do to the ocean
currents flip-flops (or slippers refereed to
by Hawaiians) are washed up on shore
every year. A look at the generator
building will tell the flip-flop story.
Walking down the path to North Beach
will tell the tale of the buoys. Hence the
treasures of the Pacific page for the
Gazette. I counted three refrigerators
washed up but did not see much in the
way of “real” trash helping to keep
Palmyra Atoll the pristine island that it is.
The bird life is the real treasure!
